Researching breast pumps can be confusing, there are a few different types and they are all useful in different scenarios. Ultimately, they all exist to help you express milk to feed your baby, but you might find that one type suits you better than another.
No one type of breast pump is ‘better’ than another, they just do slightly different things. There is a difference in price because they are simpler or more complex to manufacture, but you should choose the type of breast pump that best suits your needs (which isn’t necessarily the most powerful or more expensive!)
At Fraupow we sell three types of breast pump, here’s an overview of each one which we hope might help you to decide. If you’re still not sure please get in touch with us, we’d be happy to chat through your individual circumstances and help recommend a pump for you.
Electric Breast Pumps
The Fraupow Wearable Breast Pump is an electric pump. It has a rechargeable battery (charged by USBc cable, like a phone) which can last for up to 100 minutes of constant use. The Wearable Pump lets you pump and go as it sits neatly inside your bra with no trailing wires, tubes or clunky power unit. It has 12 different intensity levels to choose from so it’s comfortable and efficient, and the intensity can be tailored to suit you.
This is the most powerful and ‘handsfree’ of our pump options, it is designed to pump your milk as efficiently as possible. Many people like to use the Wearable Breast Pump at home, as they look after their baby and move around or chill in front of the TV. If you need to regularly pump away from home, eg at work, then this is also a great option as it can be packed into a storage bag (sold separately) and easily carried around, so that you can pump as quickly and effectively as possible and keep your top on!
Squeeze Manual Breast Pumps
If you’d prefer a manual pump so that you’re in control the Fraupow Squeeze Manual Pump is a lightweight and gentle option. This pump is powered by you, squeezing the handle creates suction which draws milk out from the breast.
The Squeeze Manual Pump is great to put in your bag for out and about or to catch milk from one breast whilst feeding on the other, if you have a strong flow and find your non-feeding breast leaks.
Lots of Mums find using a gentle manual pump can help to relieve sore, engorged breasts during bouts of mastitis - as this pump has no electricity you could even use it in a warm bath! Many Mums choose to get a manual pump rather than invest in an electric pump, especially as they might not be sure how much they will want to use a pump yet. This is a great option to get started with expressing, and then you can always move on to an electric pump if you find that you need to express milk often and need a bit more power.
Manual Silicone Pump
The Fraupow Manual Pump and Milk Collector is the simplest and lowest priced of our pumps, but don’t let that fool you! The simple one piece design is perfectly formed to do its job of gently preventing any spilled milk.
This little wonder can be used as your only pump, or can be great to tuck into your bag as an alternative to your electric pump when you're out and about and you just need something simple to help release some milk.
Whether you need to express milk to use later, to relieve an engorged boob or to catch the overflow while baby is feeding on the other side this manual pump uses natural suction to catch every precious drop. No wires, no motor, no fuss - just you and baby milking it your way.
